Caracas FC and club stalwart José Manuel Rey reached agreement for the Caracas-born defender to line up for the 10-times Venezuelan champions during the whole of the 2009-2010 campaign.
Despite interest on several fronts from abroad, the man who wears the No. 3 shirt for Caracas FC decided to remain with the team.
After signing on the dotted line, Rey spoke to the club’s press department and said: "This is my home, my family and I am happy to stay here. I have an obligation with the club and my colleagues to try and do even better than we did in the season just ended and to continue making history."
Rey admitted he had received offers from abroad but none were superior to what he was offered by the Reds. "I am really grateful to the club’s board of directors in wanting to keep me here and to try and keep the squad together. I promise to do the very best I can for the club."
Despite his role as a defender, Rey had his best season so far with regard to goals scored, finding the net 10 times in Venezuelan league matches and twice more in the Copa Santander Libertadores.
Without doubt, the news that Rey will still be a member of the Caracas FC squad for the new season provides breathing space for the team and delight for the fans.
