Caracas FC were down to take on the Venezuela national squad this Saturday and Sunday in a two-game fest in the southern city of Puerto Ordaz.
The now 10-times Venezuelan league champions will face the Vino Tinto as Venezuela are known locally but with the novelty that Reds stalwarts Renny Vega, defenders Jose Manuel Rey, Gabriel Cichero and Giovanny Romero together with midfielder Franklin Lucena will be lining up for Venezuela.
The friendly games will help both sides prepare for vital upcoming fixtures with Venezuela facing Uruguay next week in a South Africa 2010 World Cup qualifying match on June 10 and Caracas FC travelling to Brazil for their clash with Gremio in the second leg (1-1 first leg) of a Copa Santander Libertadores quarterfinal on June 17.
After winning the Venezuelan league championship last weekend beating Deportivo Italia 6-1 on aggregate, manager Noel Sanvicente gave the players three days off before calling them back for training last Thursday.
