Caracas FC won their 10th national league championship when they thoroughly outclassed Deportivo Italia to win 5-0 (6-1 on aggregate) in the second leg of the Grand Final played at the Olympic stadium in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

Having drawn 1-1 as home club in the opening leg, the Reds knew they had to score at least a goal to deny the Blues and score they did.  

Franklin Lucena broke the deadlock in the eighth minute and Rafael Castellin added a second in the 11th. Midfield playmaker Alejandro Guerra popped up for number three in the 26th while Zamir Valoyes (62) and Jose Manuel Rey (76) added to the party atmosphere.

The result means Caracas FC have enjoyed a fantastic second part to the Venezuelan season winning the Clausura tournament on the last day of competition and now a much-coveted 10th league championship.

An unbelievable year and it’s not over yet. The Reds still have to travel to Porto Alegre, Brazil to take on Gremio on June 17 in the return quarterfinal leg of the Copa Santander Libertadores where a 1-1 scoreline last week in Caracas means the Venezuelans have to go in search of at least a goal to score what would be another memorable victory to compare with their two wins in recent years over River Plate of Argentina and their run this year in the Libertadores gaining such scalps as Lanus (Argentina), Everton (Chile), Chivas (Mexico) and Deportivo Cuenca (Ecuador).
