Vital Home League Matchup, Sunday

09 May 2009

By Caracas FC Press

It’s back to league championship football for Caracas FC this Sunday when they take on El Vigia at the Brigido Iriarte stadium in the capital in a match which could practically decide the outcome of the Venezuelan Clausura tournament.

The Reds trail Deportivo Tachira by just one point with two games to go but the Black and Golds have to travel to Barinas and face Llaneros FC in a tough-looking game which could see Caracas leapfrog back into top spot with just one round of fixtures left.

El Vigia, meanwhile, have struggled in the Clausura and have 15 points from 14 matches. However, such is the importance of Sunday’s encounter that in the end, the performances of both El Vigia and Llaneros will have a big impact on how the Clausura is finally decided.

Caracas are expected to rest several players from the visit to Ecuador last Thursday where the Reds, despite a 2-1 defeat, got the vital away goal against Cuenca which gives them every chance of qualifying for the last eight of the Copa Santander Libertadores when the two teams meet for the second leg on Tuesday in the Venezuelan capital.

Gabriel Cichero is suspended from Sunday’s 4pm kick off at the Brigido Iriarte stadium and no doubt manager Noel Sanvicente will juggle his squad to ensure it is strong enough to get three points against El Vigia and at the same time have an eye on fielding his best possible side to face the Ecuadoreans on Tuesday night in the return leg.
