It wasn’t to be for Caracas FC. They tried by every means possible – by land, sea and air, with dead ball situations, long balls etc. – but it couldn’t be done despite the effort.

A draw it was against Monagas SC in Maturin on Sunday.

For the first ten minutes the sides were even but after that the Reds began to control the game and push back the hosts more and more towards their own line.

On 29 minutes the pressure told when youngster Anthony Uribe went down in the box

And Rey coolly took the penalty kick for a 1-0 lead sending goalkeeper Rosales the wrong way.

On 43 minutes, however, a penalty at the other end saw Maita felled. He picked himself up to take the penalty sending Toyo to his left to tie the scores at 1-1.

In the second half the Reds launched attack after attack to no avail with Figueroa, Gomez and Guerra coming on to lend a hand. Five clear chances on goal came to nothing with three possible penalty decisions not given by referee Andarcia and two fine saves made by Rosales.
